Favorite Holiday Traditions

What is your favorite holiday tradition? The one that I love most is designing and planning my annual family photo Christmas card. Now that my family is grown I include my kids, grandkids and even my granddogs. This is something I've done for over 40 years. I look back in awe as I see the way everyone has changed over the years. 

I'm not really sure how I got anything done before Pinterest but it is definitely my go-to for any and all ideas in every aspect of my life. The possibilities are endless! Whether you want to include your entire family, just the kids or even your furbaby, follow my Christmas Card board to find your own inspiration. Now is the time to start planning the perfect holiday greeting!
The first known personalized Christmas card was sent in 1891 by Annie Oakley, the famous American sharpshooter and star of Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. She was in Glasgow, Scotland at Christmas time that year and sent cards back to her friends and family in the states featuring a photo of her on it. 
As you can see in the photo, honoring her time in Scotland, she's wearing a tartan (a pattern consisting of criss-crossed, horizontal and vertical bands). Annie reportedly designed the cards herself and had them printed by a local printer. We found this great story at whychristmas.com.

Christmas Card Traditions

Christmas cards have become a wonderful tradition in many families across the United States. These annual cards are a great way to reach out to distant family and friends over the holiday season. Many people like to add a personal touch to their annual greeting cards by including pictures of their immediate family, so distant friends and relatives can see how everyone has grown and changed over the last year - and the Ornaments for Keeps family is no exception!

Linda Henderson, the driving force behind our custom Christmas ornaments business, began designing yearly Christmas cards in 1980 after her first daughter was born in 1979 (on Christmas Day, no less!). She has kept copies of her Christmas cards every year, and looking back on them always brings a smile to everyone's faces.

The Christmas card tradition began decades and decades ago. Linda's mom actually sent her very first Christmas card in 1954! It's amazing to see how the cards have grown and evolved since then. 

It's definitely not too soon to start planning your 2014 Christmas cards; choosing the perfect photograph(s) to include in the greeting can take more time than you might think! Have You Started Thinking About Your 2013 Christmas Card?

I love to send and receive photo Christmas cards! I proudly display them so we can enjoy them throughout the Holiday Season.

Many families make the creation of their Christmas card a part of their family traditions. It has become very popular for families to design and create their own Christmas card by adding personal touches of family photos and holiday snapshots. The greeting in the card can be personalized but brief or may include a "Christmas letter" updating everyone on the years’ events.

I have started planning our photo Christmas card for 2013. Creating a personal card was one of the holiday traditions I began in 1980 after our first daughter was born in 1979 on Christmas Day. Looking back on the cards from each year brings back smiles and great memories.

My mother sent her first photo Christmas in 1954.
