Celebrate the Graduate with a Personalized Ornament

The month of May can mean so much for so many. The little tike that has graduated pre-school into Kindergarten launching their school career. How cute they are at that age! The high schooler that has finished their journey of growth into adulthood and then there are the college graduates that now get to begin their life in the direction their dreams have lead. There were the early mornings, all the homework, the late nights at the library, the plays and awards ceremonies, and all of the other traditions leading to the academic graduation. What a whirlwind it has been! That special person in your life deserves something personal to commemorate this great occasion.

I still have my graduation ornament from 1998 that I bring out every year to treasure on my Christmas tree. It reminds me of all the hard work and dedication it took to earn that diploma.

We have many options to choose from for your graduate...

Do you have a specific school or year you would like your ornament to be customized to?

It’s a gift to be cherished forever!

Where Ornaments Are Made

Finally, our crafting paradise is complete! This wonderful idea ended up taking a little longer than what was expected but really, doesn’t any home project? Going from a cold and drab unfinished basement to a warm and inviting space to let our creativity flow was totally worth the wait! I wanted to highlight some of our favorite features that made this room come together.

I first want to emphasize the importance of having storage, storage and more storage. We’re about three items away from being able to open up our own Hobby Lobby! As you can see, the room is centered around a huge 5’x9’ table that we skirted with black fabric to hide all of the goodies that lurk below. On both sides of this table we have cabinets that give us more storage and more workspace.

Adding the green bins on the inside makes it even more appealing when these cabinets have to be opened.

The shelves between the windows have been amazing! Keeping all of our paints, glitters, glues, and ribbons organized is a necessity.

Credit has to be given to my sister-in-law, Kathy Shramek, for the one-of-a-kind window treatments. She took four to five yards of six different fabrics, tore them into pieces and tied them onto laundry clothes-line…what an idea that turned out fabulous!

Of course we have the racks that display all of the ornaments and last but not least there is the mailing and printer station. This has come in so handy. Having all of our mailing boxes, taping supplies and a place to print the mailing labels is a must have to make the Christmas season run as efficiently as possible.

This sign above the cabinet says it all…”Do what you Love!”

We’d love to hear your feedback on our new space where ornaments are made and also to see your pictures of your creative workspace!

Steppin' Up Style

How cute did these stairs turn out? After what seemed like an eternity turning the dungeon we used to work in into a creator’s dream, came the fun part of putting our personal touches on the décor.

I knew the stairs needed something but the big question was what? I came across this black and white pattern that I just fell in love with and it just so happened that this was on wrapping paper…could it work?

I cut the size I needed for a couple of the spaces and used scotch tape to put them in place so that I could see how it looked without the commitment. Was it too much is what I worried about at first, this seemed a little out of my element. After a few days and a few opinions I decided this was it!

I continued to cut the rest of the pieces to cover each stair and this time instead of tape I used spray adhesive and once applied smoothed out all of the wrinkles. To give it a final seal so the paper did not tear I used a matte mod podge and covered the full area of the paper.

After this completely dried it was instant love! What do you think…would you try this? Stay tuned to see what other fantastic ideas we came up with!

A Bonaire Affair

I just returned from a great week in Bonaire.  What a wonderful island to soak up the sun, feel the island breeze and get re-energized.

Always when I travel, I look for unique handmade crafts and DIY ideas.  Shopping in the heart of Bonaire was so fun, palm trees gently blowing and the many colors of the buildings looked so tropical.  Browsing the shops I found a unique, whimsical store, The Bonaire Affair.  A mother and daughter own this store and they travel the world looking for handmade gifts to offer in their store.  I found painting and word art on driftwood, whimsical clocks made out of driftwood, hand-beaded belts, washers made into geckos, handmade Christmas ornaments reflecting the beach and all personalized with Bonaire and wonderful handmade jewelry.  This is truly a place to visit if you are ever in Bonaire.

The cruise ships were in port the day we were shopping so the outdoor vendors were set-up too.  These were not typical tourist traps, they were quality craftsmen with handmade jewelry, canvas, driftwood and clay art.  A couple of wonderful finds for me were the Flaming Flamingo hot sauces and seasonings handmade in Bonaire.  After tasting I chose the BBQ Dry Rub-Tropical Chipotle and the Caribbean Flame Hot Sauce.  Yum!  I look forward to serving these.

My last find I purchased 2 bracelets that were handmade out of recycled bicycle tires with beads added.  I knew my daughters would love these.

As I return to the remaining months of winter, I’m inspired to create some tropical ornaments from clay and possibly try some word art on barn wood.  What are your DIY projects you are working on these winter months?  I would love to hear about them!

Personalize Your Family's Elf on the Shelf

The Christmas season is in full swing and we have a question for you...Is your Elf on the Shelf?

This is a tradition for many families world wide! Stemming from the popular 2005 book, The Elf on the Shelf watches and listens all day to what the kiddos are doing and saying.... Then at night he travels back to the North Pole to report to Santa.  Each morning, the Elf will return to the home in a different location throughout the home waiting to be discovered by the kids.

Like most traditions, you want to personalize them. What better way to personalize this fun Christmas tradition than with a morning delivery of personalized elf ornaments on your tree?   The Elf on the Shelf could be perched on your tree with a sign to look for the new ornaments that he has delivered to them!!  Or you could simply have them near the Elf on the Shelf and allow your children to put them on the tree.   Check out all my personalized Elf ornaments!!

This is just one idea for you to share with your loved ones. Traditions can be created so easily but can be cherished for a lifetime!

Happy crafting and I hope these ideas help!  Since my first craft show in 1981, customers here at home and from around the United States continue to add to their collections and to buy these personalized gifts for family and friends.
